MANAMA: Bahrain said yesterday it hoped a democratic and prosperous nation would emerge from the Iraqi elections.
The Cabinet session, chaired by Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, expressed its full support for the polls and said it hoped that all ethnic and political groups would take part and elect nation-building leaders.
Members said they were hopeful that such a "monumental event" would determine the future of Iraq, particularly its stability and territorial integrity.
They also believed the elections would restore Iraq to its pivotal role on the regional and global arenas.
