BD10m state-of-the-art car complex on way

MANAMA: A BD10 million state-of-the-art car service and engineering complex, called the Toyota Plaza, is to be built in Isa Town.It is being constructed by Ebrahim K Kanoo, distributors of Toyota and Lexus in Bahrain.

The first phase of the project will be completed in two years and located on a 27,000 square metre (around 280,000 square feet) site north of the current Toyota service centre in Isa Town, said E K Kanoo Group president Mohammed Kanoo.

The project will create more than 100 new jobs for Bahrainis, he told a Press conference at the E K Kanoo corporate office, in Manama.

Mr Kanoo earlier signed a BD5 million contract with Charilaos Apostolides Bahrain (Chapo) for the construction of the first phase.

The service centre will be fully air-conditioned to provide a comfortable environment to workers.

The second phase is a BD3 million body and paint service centre, which will commence within six months.

The centre will house the administration and the management offices, as well as training facilities for employees, on the first floor.

It will also consist of a large genuine spare parts warehouse and sales desk to cater to customers and adjacent workshops.

The Toyota Plaza will house other facilities such as the Express Service section, staff restrooms, a cafeteria and a small clinic for first aid.

On providing jobs to Bahrainis, Mr Kanoo said the Toyota Plaza will include practical and theoretical training facilities, which will provide on-the-job training within various workshops and training rooms.

" An open customer reception area will allow customers to view their vehicles being serviced in the Express Service section by the Toyota professional technicians," he added.

"The centre will also provide spacious parking lots to receive customers' vehicles, in addition to vehicle delivery bays.

"The centre will offer customers a complimentary cafeteria, Internet access and vehicle library services while waiting for their vehicles."

The Toyota Plaza will also include a showroom to display the latest vehicles from Toyota and Lexus; a trade-in section, insurance section, finance section, leasing and rent-a-car section and Ziebart section for vehicle detailing.

There will also be a car wash section and a body and paint workshop.

Equipment for the centre will cost more than BD2 million, said Mr Kanoo.

The Press conference was attended by E K Kanoo vice-president Fuad Kanoo, Chapo managing director Fawzi Kanoo, Mohammed Salahuddin Consulting Engineering Bureau (MSCEB) managing director Mohammed Salahuddin, who is the design and supervision consultant for Toyota Plaza, E K Kanoo general manager- IT division Waleed Kanoo, human resources development manager Talal Kanoo, general manager-facilities and projects Jasbir Singh, and other senior officials of E K Kanoo.
