Record-holder on world tour

BAHRAIN has become the latest stop in a global tour by 65-year-old Mohammed Rashid and his record-breaking moustache, which is officially the longest in the world.

Mr Rashid, from Turkey, also has the third longest chest hair in the world at 40cm.

But he is logged in the Guinness World Records for growing the biggest moustache, which once reached 180cm.

Although he has now trimmed it back to 140cm, Mr Rashid says he still has to walk sideways through doorways because they are too narrow.

He has also taken to tucking his moustache behind his ears to keep it out of the way.

The father-of-five is now visiting Bahrain to show off his moustache and is a familiar face at Seef Mall - where he is often stopped by passers-by who ask to have their picture taken with him.

"I started growing my moustache 36 years ago and it once stood 180cm, but I cut it off because it was bothering me," he told the GDN.

"I take my comb with me everywhere because I have to constantly comb my moustache.

"My chest hair measures 40cm and sometimes if

people ask me if my moustache is real I show them my chest hair."

Mr Rashid says that he brushes his moustache up to 10 times a day so that it doesn't get tangled up.

He is on his second visit to Bahrain after coming here five years ago, but says he has so far visited around 50 countries as part of his world tour.

Before embarking on his travels, he was an engineer, but said that his enormous moustache never got in the way.

"When I was 40, I went to Libya to work as an engineer for six years and then went back to Turkey where I worked for 15 years," he said.

"My moustache was not a big problem for me. I worked easily and people at work liked me very much and respected me."

Mr Rashid said it is a tradition in Turkey for men to grow their moustache as a sign that they are "good and strong".

"When I was in my 20s, I used to be a boxing champ. I was very strong and very big," he said.

"I am married with five children, aged 25 to 45, and they are very proud of my moustache and me.

"I like travelling and I am just going around the world to look at countries and show people my moustache.

"I go to Seef Mall every day and people come up to me, ask me questions and take photographs with me."

"But I will go back to Turkey after Bahrain because I miss my family and I want to see them. "I don't know where I will go next."
