ABOUT 100 women's leaders from 16 Arab countries will converge in Bahrain tomorrow to discuss the means of promoting their role in the region.
The two-day conference will focus on the success of Arab women in the legal, economic and political fields.
Bahraini women's economic empowerment will also be highlighted at the Successes of Women as Leaders of Change conference scheduled to be held at Gulf Hotel's Gulf International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The event is being sponsored by the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the US State Department Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI).
Participants will examine experiences in the region that reflect women's achievements, including the role of women in family and society, women's contribution to the economic sector and their political participation.
The conference will also highlight reform of the Moudawana (code binding women to their husbands) in Morocco, Kuwaiti women's voting rights, Saudi women's steps towards participation in elections in the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the active participation of women in Iraq's newly formed Parliament.
The conference has the honorary participation and support of the Supreme Council for Women and the American Bar Association.
It aims to increase co-operation and promote joint efforts in order to develop the role of women and women's contributions in the Arab world.
