Sunday school marks jubilee

The St Peter's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church Sunday School celebrated its silver jubilee at the Palace Hotel, Adliya, yesterday. An honouring ceremony and cultural performances by students marked the event that was attended by members of churches in Bahrain.

The celebration started with a lamp-lighting ceremony conducted by visiting Bishop of the St Peter's Syrian Orthodox Church in Kerala His Grace Yoohanon Mor Milithious.

He was joined by Reverend Dr Samuel Verghese, who was the guest of honour, vicar Father Rijo Joseph, church secretary T V Jacob and school headmaster P V Jacob.

Student Eldho Joy was presented with an award for getting the highest marks in the International Malankara Jacobite Syrian Sunday Schools Associa-tion's (MJSSA) Biblical examination.

Sunday school students from several churches presented cultural performances, followed by a vote of thanks by teacher Chevalier Thomas Abraham.

Mementoes were presented to Bishop Milithious and Reverend Verghese, and a programme for honouring teachers' service to the MJSSA was announced.
