Freedom praised by visiting bishop

A RECEPTION was hosted for one of the senior bishops of the Indian Syrian Orthodox Church by the Kerala Christian Ecumenical Council (KCEC). A visiting dignitary to the St Mary's Syrian Orthodox Church, Salmaniya, Gee Varghese Mar Ivanios Metropolitan of the Kottayam Diocese, Kerala, India came to Bahrain to preside over the holy ceremonies of Good Friday and Easter and is to return soon.

The event also included the annual get-together of the KCEC Sunday School teachers and the prize distribution of the students who took part in various competitions of the school.

Students who participated were from the Sunday Schools of Marthoma Parish, St Mary's Syrian Orthodox Church, St Peter's Syrian Jacobite Church, Church of South India and the Kerala Catholic Association.

The keynote address was delivered by the GDN associate editor Soman Baby followed by felicitations by St Mary's Syrian Orthodox Church secretary Jacob Pullakudiyil, KCEC president Rev K V Abraham, St Peter's Syrian Jacobite Church vicar Rev Rijo Joseph, KCEC secretary Mathew Thomas and KCEC joint treasurer Thomas Mathew.

The vote of thanks was given by KCEC vice president R K Wilson.

"I wish to whole-heartedly thank the Royal Family for all their support and kind co-operation bestowed upon the Indian community in Bahrain and for providing them with the freedom of following their own faith," said the bishop.

"The Ruling Family is a blessing to the residents of this country, both the Bahrainis and the expatriates and they have always been open to all of their problems."
