BD750,000 for Al Areen renovation

THE Al Areen Holding Company yesterday announced a grant worth more than BD750,000 for the Al Areen Wildlife Park and Reserve.

The funds will be used for the construction, rehabilitation and renovation of several major facilities within the major tourist attraction.

These include new administrative offices, workers living quarters, greenhouses, bird and animal quarantines, a new shelter for Oryx, the digging of additional water wells and maintenance of the sanctuary mosque.

Most of the work on the projects has nearly been completed.

Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife Professor Ismail Al Madani thanked the company for the funding, which he said would contribute to protecting and developing the wildlife and supporting environmental tourism in Bahrain.

"The Al Areen Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1976 to protect rare and endangered wild plants and animals, as well as many birds," he said.

"Over the last several years, the wildlife sanctuary has vastly developed in terms of number and type of animals, birds and visitors.

"This undoubtedly requires continuous development."

Al Areen Holding Company general manager Walid Saffy said officials considered it their social and national duty to enrich the tourist attraction and support the environment.
