MANAMA: An investigation has been launched into allegations of corruption at the Muharraq Municipal Council, it emerged yesterday.
Constituents have accused council staff of swindling them out of money earmarked for a BD2.5 million housing renovation scheme.
It is claimed that some families who were actually included in the scheme were told their applications had been rejected, council chairman Mohammed Hammada said yesterday.
He has pledged a complete investigation into allegations that the money, which the needy families should have received to repair their homes, had been stolen.
The amount of money that has allegedly gone missing was not clear yesterday.
