BD50,000 drugs seized in sting

A BAHRAINI drug addict caught in a police sting helped set up a trap to catch his supplier, with heroin worth BD50,000.

Both are now in custody on drug-related charges, a Public Prosecution spokesman said yesterday.

Sources tipped off the police that the Bahraini man was taking heroin and a warrant was issued for his arrest and to search his home.

An undercover agent posing as a client arranged to buy BD100 worth of heroin from him. He was arrested as the exchange took place.

Police also searched his home and found two rolls of heroin, said the spokesman.

The man agreed to set up a rendezvous to buy more from his Indian supplier, with police laying in wait.

"The Bahraini man had asked for heroin worth BD500, so they agreed to meet later that day in Muharraq," said the spokesman.

He said police arrested the Indian man handing over the drug, and later found 26 rolls of heroin worth BD50,000 in his home.

Both men had confessed to using drugs, but both denied selling them, said the spokesman.

They have been remanded in custody for a week on charges of possessing, using and selling heroin.
