Man jailed for sexual assualt

A MAN who sexually assaulted an eight-year-old Bahraini boy was jailed for three years yesterday.

The 26-year-old Bahraini's lawyer had earlier pleaded for mercy, saying his client was mentally ill.

He stripped and fondled the boy after luring him into a partially-constructed building.

The defendant denied sexual assault, but was convicted at the High Criminal Court heard earlier.

Defence lawyer Ali Ahmed Ayyad had said earlier in his defence papers that the assault was superficial and his client did not actually rape the Bahraini boy.

He said what his client did was "unnatural and immoral" but that he was "not in his right from of mind".

The boy was playing football near his home in Isa Town, when the ball fell into a deep trench, the court had heard earlier.

He could not reach the ball and asked some Asian men working nearby to help.

But the men refused and told him to ask the defendant who was standing nearby.

The defendant agreed to help the boy and went to a partially-built building nearby and brought a ladder, then climbed into the trench, fetched the ball and gave it to the boy.

But as the boy was leaving with the ball, the defendant asked to help him take back the ladder.

The boy agreed and went with the defendant to the partially-built building. There the defendant removed the boy's trousers and covered his mouth to prevent him from screaming while he fondled him, the court heard earlier. He then let the boy go. [email protected]
