Top Egypt official delays Israel trip

CAIRO: Egypt's powerful head of intelligence Omar Suleiman has put off a trip to Israel because of the Jewish state's onslaught on the Gaza Strip, state media reported yesterday.

The Al Ahram daily said Suleiman postponed the trip, which had been due to take place on tomorrow, in protest at "the Israeli escalation" in the Gaza Strip.

It said another date would be set for the visit, which is aimed at discussing ways of lifting the crippling blockade of the Gaza Strip, "depending on Israel's commitment to international resolutions".

Suleiman's visit was announced on February 26.
