Three Bahraini sailors for Singapore event

THREE Bahraini sailors will be taking part in the Singapore National Sailing Championship which gets underway on Tuesday.

The Bahrainis will compete in three different classes during the five-day event to be organised by Singapore Sailing Federation.

Faisal Abdulaziz will compete in the Byte 2 class which will part of his preparations for the First Asian Youth Games which also takes place in Singapore from June 29 July 7.

The event will be useful for Abdulaziz who is gearing up for the First Olympic Youth Games which will also be organised in Singapore in 2010.

The remaining two Bahrainis to be seen in action at the Singapore National Championship are Omar Abdulaziz, who will take part in the Laser Radial, and Abdulrahim Abdulla, who is contesting in the Laser Standard.

The same three sailors will also compete in the 17th edition of Al Bareh International Regatta Championship scheduled to be held in Barhain from June 22 to 27.

This year, Bahrain will be represented by 20 sailors in four different classes - Laser Standard, Laser Radia, Laser 4.7 and Optimist class.

Twenty five-year-old Sami Al Kooheji will lead the Bahrainis in the Laser Standard.

Other sailors from Bahrain to compete in the same class are Abdulla Janahi, Abdulrahim Abdulla and 29-year-old Ibruahim Abdulla who will be the oldest Barhaini in the fray.

In the Laser Radial, Ahmed Abdulaziz, Mohanna Al Dossary and Abdulaziz Al Mahmeed will be seen in action while Omar Abdulaziz, Aisal Abdulaziz, Ahmed Abdulla and Dawood Abdulla are to compete in the Laser 4.7 class.

In the Optimist class, which is open to under-15-year-old sailors, nine Bahrainis will be in the fray, including 10-year-old Abdulla Al Saee who is the youngest member in the Bahrain squad.

The remaining Bahrainis taking part are Ibrahim Daij, Ibrahim Shuwaiter, Jassim Shuwaiter, Omar Hazeem, Khalid Hazeem, Abdulrahman Al Saee, Abdulla Salman and Isa Daij.

The team is being coached by Kasem Bin Jumia and are presently training three days a week due to their final examinations which are already underway.
