Kannada Sangha lines up star-studded event

KANNADA Sangha, Bahrain, is organising its annual function Kannada Vaibhava on December 17 at the Al Raja School Auditorium.

The star-studded programme starts at 5.30pm in presence of specially flown guests from the southern Indian state of Karnataka.

Kannada newspaper Vijaya Karnataka chief editor Vishweshwara Bhat will be the chief guest, while Kannada magazine senior editor Thilakanath Manjeshwar will be the guest of honour.

Well-known singer Mr Ramesh Chandra and humourist Ms Sudha Baragur will also showcase their talent.

"It will be a fun-filled evening and everyone will have something to enjoy," said Sangha president Austin Santhosh.

Mr Chandra is a versatile singer and has sung more than 150 songs in Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Tulu, Hindi, Marati, Kodagu, Konkani and Lambani.

He is also the recipient of many honours including the Karnataka State award on two occasions.

Ms Baragur is also well-known for her humour and a regular on many TV channels. She has performed all over the world and been a regular fund-raiser for various charities.

The other highlight of the evening will be a dance ballet to be presented by amateur Sangha artists. Celebrated choreographer Sahana Bhat has been specially flown in to train the Sangha members.

Ms Bhat is a familiar name in Bahrain following her frequent visits. During last year's function she had choreographed Ramayana Darshanam.
