A DELEGATION from the Architects Committee made a field trip yesterday to sports facilities that will host the 21st Gulf Cup Football Tournament in Bahrain from January 5 to 18.
The tournament will feature eight teams from across the GCC region.
This visit by the committee, which is under the GCC Inspection Committee, was aimed to inspect the level of preparedness with less than two months remaining before the start of this prestigious event.
Qatari Khalid Al Kuwari headed the delegation to the National Stadium where he was briefed on what have been achieved so far.
Other committee members are Mohammed Al Kandari and Tareq Al Kandari of Kuwait.
Gulf Cup executive committee member Abdulrahman Askar presented a report on the latest stages of renovation in different locations at the stadium.
He briefed the visitors on what have been accomplished with regards to the main pitch, the media centre, the lighting system, players and referees changing rooms, TV interviews location and other services.
Saud Akbari of Akbari Architects, Hisham Mukhtar and representatives of the contracting companies overseeing these projects were also present on the occasion.
Later on, the committee members moved to Khalifa Sports City Stadium.
Players and referees changing rooms and the electronic scoreboard are being refurbished here while a new natural turf is also being laid.
The committee held a co-ordination meeting before the start of their field trip at the Organising Committee premises in Seef Area, where technical reports on the status of facilities at various stadiums were presented.
Meanwhile, Media Committee chairman Tawfeeq Al Salehi stressed the significant role of media in highlighting the 21st Gulf Cup.
Al Salehi also noted the co-operation of local media by publishing articles on the tournament and the latest preparations of the organising committee.
Al Salehi explained the future working plan of the committee as well as the duties of each member as they build up on what was accomplished in the past.
The committee includes deputies Ali Al Arabi, Salah Shehab and Hamad, in addition to members Mahmood Bahran, Hassan Mansoor, Sayed Hassan, Najla Al Sabbagh and representatives of local daily publications.
