Rights 'part of Bahrain's heritage'

MINISTER of State for Information Affairs and the government's spokesperson Sameera Rajab yesterday took part in a ceremony marking the 90th anniversary of International Federation for Human Rights (IFHR) at Paris City Hall (Mairie de Paris).

"Human rights issues represent an integral part of our heritage, faith and civilisation," she said, stressing Bahrain's keenness to promote them. "We have never oppressed humans or violated the culture of human rights and practice," she added.

Ms Rajab also confirmed Bahrain's co-operation with FIHR and highlighted her personal contacts with officials. She hailed Bahrain-France relations and said the kingdom is keen to bolster ties with all countries.

"We invite objective and fair-minded rights watchdogs and media to come to Bahrain and assess the reality in response to campaigns distorting facts about the kingdom," she said. Paris mayor Bertrand Delano‘ honoured FIHR president Souhayr Belhassan on the sidelines.
