Delegations started arriving last Friday with Ecuador and Brazil being among the first.

There are 19 countries from all over the world taking part, including the UK, Italy, Spain, Estonia, Azerbaijan and Uruguay.

Also in the fray are teams from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, Palestine Jordan, Yemen, Morocco and hosts Bahrain.

The organising committee, headed by Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (Breef) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, have stepped up the pace with six days remaining for flag-off.

The committee overseeing the opening ceremony is preparing to hold the final rehearsals, being supervised by Royal Endurance Team manager Dr Khalid Ahmed Hassan.

Several performances will be staged during the opening ceremony, including shows by the Military Music Band and the Mounted Military team while a special video presentation on the originality of Arabian horses in Bahrain is also planned on the occasion.

The stables at the Endurance Village were open yesterday and some of the teams had their first training experience in Bahrain, while participants registration and accreditation were also conducted at the same venue.

On his part, Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Media and Information Centre director Tawfeeq Al Salhi had a meeting with Nabeel Bo Hazza from Bahrain Radio and TV Corporation and finalised certain issues related to the live broadcasting of the race.

Advertisements in both Arabic and English languages will be shown on Bahrain TV Sports Channel over the next few days, as well as two daily bulletins starting from Wednesday.

The channel will begin live transmission at 6.30pm through an analysis and will also provide live telecasting of the veterinary examination.

Some of the other topics discussed were the programme 'The Beauty of Horse', to be presented by Saddad Nasser, where guests specialised in this topic will be interviewed.

Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, meanwhile, welcomed the participants.

"We are happy and excited to host this championship here in Bahrain for the first time with the support of His Majesty King Hamad," said Shaikh Khalid.

The Breef president noted that hosting the World Military Championship affirms Bahrain's ability to host major sporting events and is an opportunity for participants to spend time full of excitement and thrills, as well as explore their skills at the races.

"We believe that this world-class competition represents a significant stop among other endurance championships and an opportunity to highlight the excellent reputation of Bahrain in endurance races."

Shaikh Khalid emphasised that the Military Championship, organised for the first time at the international level, has received major backing of His Majesty King Hamad, who always shows interest and support to equestrian sports in Bahrian.

He praised Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his keenness to improve the abilities of Bahraini riders and encourage them to participate in different endurance competitions.
