MANAMA: Alba remains positioned as a regional champion in occupational health, workplace safety and environmental management.
The company received the Gulf Aluminium Council's (GAC) maiden Health and Safety and Environmental Award.
The awards were announced during the 16th Arab International Aluminium Conference (Arabal 2012), held at the Grand Hyatt Doha in Qatar.
A committee consisting of senior officials from GAC, the International Aluminium Institute and Ma'aden reviewed proposals submitted for the awards.
"It is always a pleasure to be recognised for the work we do to ensure workplace safety, commitment to occupational health and adherence to environmental regulations," said Alba chief executive Tim Murray.
"These measures have been taken not only to comply with best industry practises but more importantly to ensure a safe working environment for our employees. The plant emits a positive impact for the wider community in Bahrain," he added.
The GAC awards were established to recognise excellence and leadership in health, safety and environmental management as well as acknowledge the outstanding contribution of companies, like Alba, in balancing their responsibilities with the success.
