Panel 'probing irregularities'

A PROBE panel is investigating alleged irregularities at Bahrain Polytechnic, it said in a statement yesterday.

This comes after the parliament financial and economic affairs committee recommended in its final review of the National Audit Court report that Bahrain Polytechnic be referred to Public Prosecution for violations.

The committee also named 13 other government institutions to face probe, including Bapco, Works and Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs ministries, Alba, Banagas, Bahrain Polytechnic, Bahrain Institute of Public Administration, Bahrain Airport Company, Shaikh Khalifa and Shaikh Isa Sport Projects and Northern, Central and Southern municipalities.

Top Bahrain Polytechnic officials said they are following up on recommendations, thanking the members of parliament for showing keen interest in protecting the public money.

They said the polytechnic has conducted a thorough study into the recommendations as soon as it received the report, in line with the Cabinet's decisions.

"A probe panel was set up to look into the irregularities while keeping in touch with authorities in Bahrain to implement all legal measures," the statement said

"Bahrain Polytechnic has made great progress in rectifying the situation and implementing the recommendations under the supervision of its board of trustees.

"The board periodically updates the Education Minister, who is in charge of controlling and monitoring Bahrain Polytechnic, on the progress," it said.
