Riders ready for endurance event

PROMINENT riders from all around Bahrain have stepped up their preparations for the Khalid bin Hamad Seniors Rides, to be held tomorrow at the Bahrain International Endurance Village in Sakhir.

The third endurance event of the 2012/13 season will feature two rides, with the main race being over 120km. The other competition of the day is a qualifying ride which is over 80km.

Headed by event patron Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (Breef) has finalised all its arrangements for tomorrow's challenge.

Participants will come from different stables, with the Royal Team to be captained by Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

The Royal Team, one of the main contenders tomorrow, are expected to rise up to the occasion and secure podium finish. Other stables in the fray include Al Khalidiya, Al Shuwamekh, Al Mugheirat and Al Ruwaie Stable.

Royal Team manager Dr Khalid Ahmed Hassan said his riders have reached high level of fitness and readiness ahead of tomorrow's race, noting that the team had no break following the 2011/12 season and continued training for the new season championships.

Hassan said the Royal Team members look to continue their solid performances this year and achieve positive results throughout the races this season, which expects to be a well-contested one due to the noticeable improvement of most of the stables.

On his part, Al Shuwamekh Stable coach Jamal Al Dossary said he believes that tomorrow's ride will feature stiff battle among several riders and stables seeking glory, noting that the third race of the season promises to be a fast-paced ride from start to finish.

Al Dossary said his stable will introduce four riders tomorrow, namely Isa Amin, Abdulrahman Amin, Faisal Al Dossary and Abdulla Isa.

As for Al Mugheirat Stable, their manager Hamad Al Muraisi said the race is likely to be tough and competitive with a large number of riders due to take part, affirming that all the riders have technically improved from last season and are now fully prepared for the new season.

Al Muraisi will lead his stable in the 80km ride. Other Al Mugheirat Stable representatives include Abdulla Amin and Saad Abdulla.

The Al Ruwaie Stable coach Khalid Al Ruwaie, meanwhile, said he is excited to line up with a group of Bahrain's top riders in the 120km race. Al Ruwaie, the only representative from his stable in the 120km ride, said Fahad Ismail and Abdulrahman Abdulrahim will be taking part in the other 80km event.

The 120km ride will be divided into five stages, starting with 30km for the first. It will be followed by another 30km distance for the second, 20km for the third, 20km for the fourth while the fifth and concluding stage is also over 20km.

The veterinary examination is set for today from 3.30pm until 5pm at the veterinary examination area at the endurance village.

Maximum weight for both riders were also announced, as the weight of each rider competing in the 120km should not exceed 75kg with the saddle, while 70kg is the maximum weight allowed for each entrant in the 80km section.
