SHAIKH Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum will lead a strong field of endurance riders from the UAE at this year's King's Cup Ride on Saturday.

The Dubai Crown Prince will head into this prestigious event as one of the top entrants this year.

The event will be held over 120 ams and is open to senior riders.

He will be racing alongside compatriots Abdulla Al Marri, Khalifa Al Marri and Ali Al Marri, in additional to other riders representing different stables in the UAE.

They include Mohammed Al Sabosi, Saeed Al Khayari, Isa Al Khayari, Rashid Al Mazrooi, Saeed Al Mazrooi, Saeed Al Muhairi, Ahmed Al Saboosi, Salem Al Khatbi and Saif Al Mazrooi, all from Al Asifa Stable.

Also spearheading the UAE on Saturday will be elite riders from Fazza Stable, Imar Stable and Ajman Stable.

It was also confirmed that defending champion Yaqoub Al Hammadi will be racing again this year, hoping to retain the title.

The event is organised by Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (Breef) and is taking place at Bahrain International Endurance Village in Sakhir.

The federation has stepped up its preparations for the biggest endurance event of the season, which is in compliance with directives from Breef president and Al Khalidiya Stable captain Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

The prestigious event will feature five stages with the first two stages to be held over 30 kms each while the next three will over 20 kms each.

There's also a second race on Saturday, an 80-km qualifying ride which is open to juniors. It's divided into three stages, the first two over 30 kms and the third over 20 kms.

Tomorrow a veterinary examination will be held from 3.30pm to 5pm at the veterinary area inside the village.

Bahrain's Royal Endurance Team captain Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, meanwhile, welcomed the participants from the UAE and affirmed the significance of this ride in Bahrain.

Shaikh Nasser said he believes the ride will be a highly competitive one, especially with several riders from the UAE making a strong presence this year.
