Man jailed for fake sick note

A BAHRAINI who faked illness to get two days off work has been sentenced to five years in jail.

He was convicted of forgery by the High Criminal Court yesterday after producing a fake medical certificate.

His male relative, who helped him obtain the sick note, was also sentenced to three years behind bars.

The alleged patient, aged in his 30s, had taken time off to embark on an Umra religious pilgrimage to Mecca, but wanted to extend his leave by two days, according to court documents.

His relative presented him with a forged medical note, which was stamped by Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC).

However, the man's manager didn't believe he was ill and doubled checked with the hospital.

It then emerged the sick note had been forged and signed by a female doctor at the Psychiatric Hospital.

SMC records showed there was no record of the man visiting the hospital.

Moreover, the doctor whose signature had been copied also denied any knowledge of the patient.

Court documents state that a third party, who has not been identified, helped obtain the medical leave certificate from SMC. [email protected]
