MANAMA: Bahrain has thanked its citizens and residents for their massive show of support for policemen.
Thousands took to the streets of Riffa yesterday to demand an end to attacks on police.
The rally, which stretched from Riffa Views to Awali Roundabout, demanded stricter punishments for those who wage terror on Bahrain's security forces.
Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa expressed his appreciation to all those who took part in the licensed rally. "We are honoured to protect security, stability and general order under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad," he asserted.
"We vow to remain loyal and to conduct our duties professionally."
He said police had arrested six suspects on charges related to the blast in Dair on February 14 that killed policeman Abdulwaheed Al Balooshi.
Search continues for additional suspects, he added.
The Interior Minister said he prayed for the policeman and others who sacrificed for the security of the nation.
Those arrested have been referred to the Public Prosecution and acts of terror such as the Dair bombing only increase the determination of the Bahrain police to protect lives, property and order, the minister said.
