Gulf Union 'crucial for stability'

MANAMA: A new call to form a Gulf Union went out from His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa yesterday. He said current events around the region highlighted the importance of the proposal, tabled by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, on safeguarding the GCC.

The Premier also called on Bahrainis to join ranks in the face of external threats and warned of efforts to disrupt the security and stability of the region.

"Nothing is dearer to us than our homeland, Bahrain, and our stances to preserve it are firm." He added that other countries in the region were suffering as a result of policies "whose only goal was chaos".

His comments were made as the Premier received a number of MPs, municipal councillors, clerics, scholars, intellectuals, media representatives, businessmen and citizens representing all segments of society at Gudaibiya Palace after returning from a private visit abroad. During the meeting he highlighted the need to consolidate Bahrain's relationships in South Asia and investment in food security.
