Shaikh Hamdan claims victory in Normandy

SUPREME Council for Youth Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa withdrew from the fifth and last stage of the 160km ride at the World Endurance Horse Racing Championship due to an injury to his horse after completing all the four previous stages in top position.

UAE's top rider Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum emerged the winner of the race held in Normandy, France, yesterday.

A total of 170 riders representing 47 countries competed in the championship.

In a statement, Shaikh Nasser congratulated Shaikh Hamdan for winning the championship, pointing out that the victory, which was expected, was a result of their experience in such international championships. 

Shaikh Nasser expressed his satisfaction over the Bahrain Royal team's performance in the championship, pointing out that such events help the team members improve their performances while competing with other international riders.

Bahrain Royal team riders' results (first four stages):

Stage 1: Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad finished the stage in 02:00:50 hrs, Raed Mahmood 01:59:46 , Isa Hazza 02:00:45, Jaffar Merza 02:01:24, while UAE's Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum finished it in 01:57:02.

Stage 2: Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad finished the stage in 03:42:22, Jaffar Merza 03:40:18, Isa Hazza 03:43:41, Raed Mahmood 03:50:28, while Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum continued his leading 03:37:21.

Stage 3: Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad finished it in 05:30:29, Isa Hazza 05:35:04, Raed Mahmood 05:45:38, while Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum continued his leading 05:07:53.

Stage 4: Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad finished it in 07:40:11, and had to withdraw from competing the fifth and last stage due to the injury of his horse,  Isa Hazza 07:48:28, while Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum continued his leading till the fifth where he won the championship 06:56:30.
